If You Don't Tell Your Story

For six generations, my family has battled and survived brutal cold, drought, predators, market failure, and increasing input costs. Similar struggles have driven many ranches to sell their operations. However, the deep generational ties to the environment, love for the animals, and passion for feeding America is what sustains my family's devotion to their practice. The images in the series "If you don't tell your story"  capture the genuine day-to-day activity of animal husbandry.

Framed in reclaimed wood from the original homestead of its origin, each image is a window into the compassion ranchers have for their animals. The series tells a genuine story of rural Montana, making transparent the raw interactions between ranchers, their cattle, and the fusion of both their lives. As the adage goes, if you don't tell your story, someone else will.
